Cluster-Weighted Sampling for Synthesis and Cross-Synthesis of Violin Family Instruments
نویسندگان
چکیده
A digital model of a violin/cello is presented that computes violin sounds in real time given gesture input from a violinist. The model is derived from recorded data using clusterweighted sampling, a probabilistic inference technique based on kernel density estimation and wavetable synthesis. Novel interface technology is presented that records gesture input of acoustic instruments and also serves as a standalone controller for digital sound engines.

Cluster-Weighted Probabilistic Networks for Audio-Synthesis
A cluster-weighted framework is presented that allows powerful and transparent non-linear models to be built by integration of simple local models. Audio synthesis algorithms such as sampling, linear predictive coding and spectral synthesis become globally nonlinear synthesis models that integrate control and sound generation within a single framework. These networks are added additional levels...
متن کاملDigital Modeling of Bridge Driving-point Admittances from Measurements on Violin-family Instruments
We present a methodology for digital modeling ofD-dimensional driving-point bridge admittances from vibration measurements on instruments of the violin family. Our study, centered around the two-dimensional case for violin, viola, and cello, is based on using the modal framework to construct an admittance formulation providing physically meaningful and effective control over model parameters. I...
متن کاملSynthesis of timbral families by warped linear prediction
A central problem in the production of music by computer is how to generate sounds with similar but different timbres; that is, how to synthesize a'family" of instruments that are perceived as distinguishable but similar in timbre. This paper describes a method for synthesizing a family of string-like instruments that proceeds as follows: First, a few actual violin notes are analyzed using line...

متن کاملImitation, Genetic Lineages, and Time Influenced the Morphological Evolution of the Violin
Violin design has been in flux since the production of the first instruments in 16th century Italy. Numerous innovations have improved the acoustical properties and playability of violins. Yet, other attributes of the violin affect its performance less, and with fewer constraints, are potentially more sensitive to historical vagaries unrelated to quality. Although the coarse shape of violins is...
